GeoVENA was run across a 150 km² polygon in the United States without access to geological, claim, or drilling data. The system produced a complete regional output of 60 targets: 57 arranged in 6 compact clusters and 3 isolated points, with no additional target points generated elsewhere in the study area. 1 cluster was later found to fall within the claims of an active tungsten exploration company. As an initial introduction, the highest-scoring coordinate from that cluster was submitted to the company. At the time of the analysis, the company’s drilling program had not been published.
What happened

GeoVENA was applied to a 150 km² area in the United States without using geological information, claim boundaries, drilling records, or details of active exploration programs. The analysis produced a complete output of 60 target points. 57 of those points formed 6 compact clusters, with all points within each cluster located less than 500 meters from 1 another. 3 additional points were isolated. No other target points were generated elsewhere in the study area.
After the analysis had been completed, 1 of the 6 clusters was found to lie within the claims of an active tungsten exploration company. As an initial introduction, the highest-scoring point from that cluster was provided to the company on a complimentary basis. No drilling information had been requested, supplied, or available to GeoVENA before the coordinate was generated.
The company's Chief Operating Officer replied by asking whether GeoVENA had access to the company's drilling program. At that time, the drilling program had not been published. GeoVENA had no prior knowledge of either its existence or its location. The company then stated that the submitted coordinate fell directly on 1 of its principal drill holes.
The company's claimed area represented only a relatively small part of the full 150 km² study area. Most of the remaining clusters were located in nearby unclaimed ground and were generated during the same blind analysis. Their GeoVENA potential scores were comparable to the score assigned to the coordinate later matched to the drill hole. Those remaining targets have not yet been independently evaluated.
